Old Takashima-City

Takashima City has various old buildings from 150 years ago. They are remodeled merchants' houses and storehouses of Edo era.

Samurai residences have been preserved since old days in a castle town (Joukamachi in Japanese), where we are able to see and learn the history of these warriors.
It is well-known as a nice photography spot by many people, and a great atmosphere of ancient Japanese life.
There are also some restaurants serving wonderful local dishes.

As we stroll along the neighborhood, we can enjoy the view of the buildings from the Edo era, and also buildings from Meiji to the Showa period.

One of the attractions is an old cigar store. Cigarettes were sold at small storefronts in the early days of the Showa period. It is rarely seen in Japan now, therefore a good place for photography.
You can photograph deserted houses which show an impression of interesting old grain wood.
